First responders found bus driver Wei Chen bleeding on the road about a tenth of a mile from his bus, which was still running.
“It was still creeping a little bit,” said New Rochelle Fire Department Chief Louis DiMeglio.
A State Trooper eased his cruiser in front “to stop the bus” while a firefighter clambered inside to cut the engine, the chief said. “We chocked the wheels. It wasn’t travelling fast.”
DiMeglio said they ran into a language barrier when they tried to ask Chen whether he was thrown from the bus — or whether he ditched before the crash.
“He was out of the bus when we got there,” added State Police Capt. Evelyn Mallard.
