Jason Kidd, recently signed by the New York Knicks, was arrested for drunken driving early Sunday morning,Â according to a report out of The Southampton Patch. Â Read more after the jump.
The 39-year-old point guard was later released on his own recognizance.
Details are still emerging, but Southampton Town police confirmed that the basketball star was arrested during the midnight shift.
Kidd, 39, was arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge on Sunday morning in Southampton Town Justice Court and released on his own recognizance.
Last Thursday, the Knicks signed Kidd to a three-year, $9.5 million contract. Kidd had spend the past five seasons with theÂ Dallas Mavericks, being part of their 2011 Championship team before coming to the Knicks in free agency.
According to the Patch:
Police said that Kidd’s 2010 Cadillac Escalade struck a telephone pole and went into the woods near the intersection of Cobb Road and Little Cobb Road in Water Mill, not far from his Hamptons house. Police responded at 1:56 a.m.
Kidd, 39, was alone in the car, according to police. He was transported to Southampton Hospital for minor injuries and released into police custody.
