The high-performance variant of Audi’s A5 coupe, which itself shares the “B8” platform with the fourth-generation A4, the S5 coupe was launched in 2007 at the same time as its milder-mannered sibling.

As you would expect from an Audi “S” model, the S5 has been endowed at Ingolstadt with everything in the Volkswagen-owned brand’s armory, including a sporty suspension, subtly-aggressive rear and front fascias, quad tailpipes, performance wheels and brakes, a six-speed transmission and, of course, the marque’s renowned “quattro” all-wheel drive system.

Under the hood, its powerplant differs from that of its convertible and fastback cousins, which use the 3.0-liter V6 turbo taken from the S4. Instead, it employs a naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter V8 Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) engine capable of cranking out 354 bhp—21 more horses than the turbocharged unit—which can propel the 3,858-lb car from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds and to a top speed of 155 mph.

To enjoy the awe-inspiring soundtrack produced by one of the finest engines ever produced, purchase the 2011 Audi S5 and put it through its paces on the Simraceway circuits.
