Relatives of Mohamed Bah, 28, who was days away from his birthday, said he was acting strangely when they went to visit him at his apartment on Morningside Ave. near W. 124th St.
“He wasn’t himself. He didn’t even look like himself,” said Alpha Diallo, 28, a cousin of Bah, who lives in Harlem.
Bah’s mother, Hawa, who had flown in from Guinea for his birthday, urged him to leave the apartment, but he refused, leading them to call the police around 6:40 p.m.
“He was talking things that weren’t normal,” Hawa Bah said. “He was saying he was going to make me proud, but it wasn’t him.”
When police arrived she urged them to let her try to convince her son to get help. But cops ushered her and Bah’s relatives out of the five-story building.
“They said, ‘Don’t worry we’ll take care of this. Go downstairs.’” Diallo said.
