Congrats to Kevin Kolb & his wife!

There may be no easier way to describe how quickly things can change in sports than by pointing out that the Cardinals and their fans were worried about the possibility that quarterback Kevin Kolb could miss Sunday’s game against the Dolphins or next Thursday’s game against the Rams because his wife could go into labor with their third child.

Kolb said he would miss a game under those circumstances, something that would have barely elicited a shrug of the shoulders a few weeks ago when Kolb was backing up John Skelton and thought of as a grand mistake by the Cardinals front office. Now, though, the Cardinals are 3-0 and Kolb has turned in three good performances since Skelton hurt his ankle. Losing Kolb now would elicit much more than a shrug of the shoulders.

It’s not anything that anyone in Arizona needs to worry about, however. Kolb’s wife Whitney was due on the same day as that Rams game, but it seems the newest member of the Kolb family wanted to make sure nothing happened to upset this Cardinals start. Whitney gave birth to a baby girl named Saylor on Thursday evening. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic passes along word from a team spokesman that both mother and child are doing just fine. We wish all the Kolbs a hearty congratulations on the new addition to the clan.

Barring any unexpected snags, Kolb will be on the field against both Miami and St. Louis. And he’ll take the field with one more fan in his corner.
