The European Union has won a Nobel Peace Prize for promoting peace and democracy in Europe. The Union was awarded the prize despite the fact that they are facing their hardest time since 1950. The prize committee stated that the EU are being honored after working for six decades “to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe.” The EU has been a possible candidate for the prize for the past few years. The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its efforts to promote peace and democracy in Europe — an award given even though the bloc is struggling with its biggest crisis since it was created in the 1950s. “The stabilizing part played by the European Union has helped to transform a once-torn Europe from a continent of war to a continent of peace,” Nobel committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said.
