A schizophrenic refugee from Hurricane Sandy has disappeared from a temporary city-run shelter set up at a Brooklyn high school, wandering off into an unfamiliar neighborhood hours before the nor’easter arrived with blinding snow and frigid winds.
Mark Thomas, 52, who dislikes mass transit and cars but loves to walk outdoors, was last seen Tuesday at 4 p.m. having a smoke outside Brooklyn Tech, where 222 mentally ill residents of group homes destroyed by the storm are staying while the city finds them new homes.
