I’ve always wondered how the parents of killers feel and now one of the mother’s of the Columbine High School shooters will be giving me my answer in a new book: “Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity.” Sue Klebold spoke to author Andrew Solomon to talk about how she felt after the massacre that her son was involved in. On April 20th, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Kledbold entered their high school and planned on killing 500 people. In the end Harris and Kledbold killed 12 students and one teacher before turning the guns on themselves. Sue Klebold told Solomon that she hoped her son didn’t actually kill anybody else but himself. Klebold told Solomon that she prayed for her son to kill himself and that she was “morally diminished” like many parents of killers. Klebold also said “I saw the end product of my life’s work: I had created a monster.” She was even more heartbroken when a sheriff’s report showed that her son had in fact killed others.
