Trace Adkins took heat for the confederate flag earpiece he wore during the Rockerfeller center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Adkins said it was not meant in any way racist, that he is the descendant of former confederate soldiers, and that it is a part of his southern heritage. It seems like this will ever be an issue in American society, is this racist or not? Hit the jump for more.

Adkins appeared with the earpiece on a nationally televised special for the lighting on Wednesday. Some regard the flag as a racist symbol and criticized Adkins in Twitter postings.
But in a statement released Thursday, the Louisiana native called himself a proud American who objects to any oppression and says the flag represents his Southern heritage.
He noted he’s a descendant of Confederate soldiers and says he did not intend offense by wearing it.

I don’t feel it’s racist. While the confederacy was partly about keeping slaves they were also about not being pushed around by a government they didn’t agree with. Trace Adkins is a descendant of those in the confederacy and he is just embracing that. While I’m not a huge fan of Trace Adkins music, he has a couple songs I like, he is a genuine person and has done many things for charities that benefit all races, not just white people. Please understand that not ALL white people that are into country music are racist. Hell, Cowboy Troy is a black country performer. This is just my two cents. Take it with a grain of salt. Take care.
I feel like “any” person that wears that, definitely knows what it symbolizes…when you are a star, racism is reduced, because now you’re rated by your social class, and A-C list celebrity type stuff, as much as Troy Aikman, and Kerry Collins have tried to hide it. Trace Atkins knows way better than that. He is a celebrity, and is suppost to be professional. I think he was trying to be humerous, and scarchastic…a “blind” man knows what that ugly flag means…oppression, and racism…sad for America…”ANOTHER RACIST COUNTRY SINGER”…
