Matt Damon was put in a funny position when rumors about himself and longtime friend and colleague Ben Affleck came up as they rose to fame together with their breakout piece “Good Will Hunting” but he never denied the rumors not until now. Matt Damon says it was his respect to the gay community that silenced him when rumors about him and best pal Ben Affleck came about. “I never denied those rumors because I was offended and didn’t want to offend my friends who were gay,” Damon retorted in an interview with Playboy, “as if being gay were some kind of f–king disease. It put me in a weird position in that sense.” Damon went on to say he’s glad that celebrities like Ellen Degeneres and Anderson Cooper have been able to come out gracefully but there still are strides to make with acceptance of homosexuality in America. Damon who is set to play the role in the story of one of America’s most prominent members of the gay community, Liberace. Damon who will play Liberace’s love interest Scott Thorson in a biopic entitled “Behind the Candelabra.”
