Judy Nieman

In late 2011, Judy Neiman fell victim to an accident few mothers are forced to deal with. While backing up her Cadillac Escalade in a bank parking lot, she accidentally backed over her daughter, Sydnee, taking her life. The crazy part of the story, Sydnee suffered from a congenital heart defect and survived four open-heart surgeries! Very strong little girl! This possibly could have all been avoided if we only had the technology in place; a new feature that will be mandatory on all vehicles. Hit the jump to find out what exactly…

Over 70% of back or front-over incidents, are usually a parent or close relative behind the wheel. There is, in fact, a law in place that calls for new manufacturing requirements to improve the visibility behind passenger vehicles to help prevent such fatal back/front over crashes. The government estimates they kill some 228 people every year – 110 of them children age 10 and under. You would think after 5 years, the change would be made but the biggest issue: Money!! Many insist its money delaying the change. The automobile industry took a major financial hit, so any other detrimental loss will be avoided at all costs. Is the loss of money more important than the loss of lives?
