During the speech Lewis said the words “no weapons formed against me shall prosper”.  The reason that causes a bit of a stir is because back in 2000, Lewis was on trial for a double murder.  A brawl outside of an Atlanta nightclub after Super Bowl XXXIV resulted in two young men left dead from stab wounds.  Lewis and two of his friends were charged but found not guilty.

Since that tragic evening, Lewis has reformed to the man we see today, inspiring, god fearing and charitable.  He’s become an amazing motivational speaker and like a preacher.  That is why he uttered the words “no weapons formed against me shall prosper”, a famous bible quote for those unfamiliar.  And though it may sting for those affected by the tragic events following that faithful brawl, that wasn’t it’s intentions.

In a 2010 interview with the Baltimore Sun, Lewis opened up about the killings.

“I’m telling you, no day leaves this Earth without me asking God to ease the pain of anybody who was affected by that whole ordeal,” he said. “He’s a God who tests people — not that he put me in that situation, because he didn’t make me go nowhere. I put myself in that situation.

“But if I had to go through all of that over again … I wouldn’t change a thing. Couldn’t. The end result is who I am now.”
