As much as us fans and writers criticize the refs unfortunately players, coaches and owners can’t do the same.  Not only must they keep their mouth shut, they face a heavy fine if they don’t.  Shawn Marion is currently paying that price.  Read more after the jump.

Via ESPN Dallas: “Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing the officiating. Marion was quoted after the Mavericks’ 117-114 overtime loss to Oklahoma City on Friday as saying that ‘it’s hard to beat anybody when you’re playing five on eight.’

Thunder All-Star Kevin Durant was given 21 free throws, making all of them, in his career-high, 52-point night.”

Shawn Marion clearly thought that number was too high as does practically anyone who ends up with the daunting task of guarding Durant.

Sometimes the refs need to be aired out.  Unfortunately everyone isn’t as rich as Mavericks owner Mark Cuban who probably has dished out more money than anyone else for his criticisms.  Maybe he’ll foot the bill for Marion (I kid).
