IFWT Victor Cruz

My how the times have changed.  After Victor Cruz’s breakout year he said he wasn’t all about the money and he was just happy to be here.  Now that his celebrity is growing and a new contract is on the horizon, Cruz isn’t ruling out a hold out.  Read more after the jump.

In a recent interview with the New York Daily News they asked about whether or not he’d consider a holdout in the extremely likely event the Giants placed a restricted free agent tender on him this offseason. “I have no answer to that,” Cruz said.

Cruz elected to avoid the question rather than start a media feud with Giants owner John Mara who recently stated that Cruz was asking for too much money.  Holding out is the only leverage Cruz has although we’ve seen it isn’t the best move with players like Mike Wallace and Maurice Jones-Drew.  H also could sit out an entire season, but he wouldn’t accrue the year he needs to become an unrestricted free agent in 2014.  I think it’s better for Cruz to play out the year and show what he’s worth, in my opinion that’s more leverage than anything.  Cruz already has a big pay day coming his way just don’t count out the Giants giving it to him there’s still plenty of time to work out a deal.
