NOLA is on my list of cities I want to visit and soon! Since the Superbowl is there this year, everyone is talking about the famous Louisiana city. Although we know a lot of things about New Orleans, I’ve never known how it became known as “The Big Easy.” It turns out that NOLA was nicknamed since it’s rival city, New York, already had the nickname of “The Big Apple.” Read more below.

In the late 1960’s Betty Guillaud, a New Orleans Times Picayune columnist, started calling the city by it’s nickname because of it’s jazz origins. The name stuck especially since jazz began in NOLA.
The nicknaming of the city isn’t as interesting as I thought it would be, but interesting none-the-less.
