It’s no secret that the Boston Celtics will go into rebuilding mode while the Clippers are finally championship contenders.  The Clippers however feel like there’s a certain piece they’re missing that’ll put them over the top.  That piece apparently is veteran Kevin Garnett.

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers have been discussing a deal to trade forward Kevin Garnett for guard Eric Bledsoe and center DeAndre Jordan, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

There are differing factions within the Celtics and Clippers on the prudence of the deal, but the two teams have been in regular contact about the possibility, sources said.

Nevertheless, the biggest hurdle could ultimately center on Garnett’s willingness to waive his no-trade clause and accept a deal to the Clippers.

Because of his home in Malibu, and a close relationship with Clippers guard Chauncey Billups, there’s hope that Garnett, a 15-time All-Star, could be coaxed into accepting a trade if an agreement is reached, sources said.

Caron Butler was originally mentioned in the rumblings but with the Clippers adding DeAndre Jordan this significantly changes things.  In essence it means they’re going all in on this year’s championship run trading away their young talent.  Garnett will add veteran leadership, defense and offense but will likely retire after this run or soon after.  The Clippers lose their youth and Blake Griffin becomes the only player under 31 under contract going into the offseason.  There’s no 100% guarantee that Chris Paul will return so whatever moves they make will have to make him happy as well.  This would be perfect for the Celtics giving them youth, size, athleticism and a great backup point guard in Eric Bledsoe.
