Patrick had already made history last week when she became the first woman to win the Daytona 500 Pole.  This weekend she continued her history making year by becoming the first woman to lead a lap in the famed race.  She led two laps – Nos. 90 and 91.  Patrick also remained in the top 10 for most of the day, and was running third toward the end of the race.  She finished the race in eighth place, it was the highest finish ever for a woman in NASCAR’s signature event. Janet Guthrie finished 11th in 1980.

Danica Patrick is truly an important figure in racing.  Although her start in NASCAR was shaky, she’s definitely redeemed herself and has become a great example for women and racers everywhere.
