Gun control has been a major push for the Obama Administration since the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in December. Although the issue of gun control is a very debatable one, many do believe that there should be more of a background check involved in the purchase of gun sales. It shouldn’t take longer to get a driver’s license than it takes to legally obtain a firearm. I know background checks will not stop the sale of illegal guns, but most of the time people who commit mass shootings have purchased their weapons legally. The Senate has announces that they are close to an agreement that would expand background checks to all private firearm sales and with little to no-exception. Read more below.

The background checks for gun sales talk is being lead by two Republicans and two Democratics and is expected to pick up more supporters and even may become a bill relatively soon. Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) says that even though the topic of gun control is a hard one to tackle, all of the senators involved in the process are taking this “in good faith.” He went on to say, “We are all serious about wanting to get something done, and we are going to keep trying.”
