The MTA fare hikes for 2013 will be in effect starting Sunday March 2. The last MTA hike took place in 2011 and another one will be taking place in 2015. It is reported that this year’s hike will increase the MTA profit by $450 million per year. The hikes aren’t too drastic, but will add up after a while. The cost of monthly and weekly unlimited MetroCards, Pay-per-ride, Base fare for subways and buses, the cost of a new MetroCard, the LIRR, and the bridges and tunnels will all be affected by the fare hike. Subway Fare Hikes:
-Monthly unlimited ride MetroCard will now cost $112 compared to the previous $104
-Weekly unlimited ride card jumps from $29 to $30
-Base fare for subways and buses will go from $2.25 to $2.50
-Pay-per-ride bonus drops to 5% from 7%, but will now kick in at $5 instead of $10
-The purchase of a new MetroCard will now be $1

LIRR
-(starting today) ticket prices will rise between 7.1% and 15.3%, but the increase will be no more than $0.75 per ride

Bridges & Tunnels
-For EZPass customers the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel), and the Queens Midtown Tunnel will be $5.30 instead of $4.80.
-Non EZPass customer will now be paying $7.50, a full dollar more.
