The Vatican has announced that the closed-door papal conclave meetings to elect the new pope. All cardinals under 80 years old are eligible to become the new pope leaving 115 cardinals to vote for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s successor. The last Papal Conclave voted for Pope Benedict XVI in only two days. 77 out of the 115 cardinals must agree to the new Pope. Read more details below.

The elections will take place on Tuesday, March 12. The cardinals will be voting up to four times-a-day at the Sistine Chapel until the new Pope is announced. Normally the wait to find out who will be Pope lasts 15-20 days.
