When Jerry West talks about basketball, you better be listening. The former Lakers great and hall of famer seems to be a big fan of what Lebron and the Miami Heat are doing with their win streak. West was part of the Lakers team that set the record with 33 straight wins 41 years ago. Most old timers never want someone to break a record they set, but Jerry West is far from that. He said “You ask me, ‘Does it bother me?’ Absolutely not. I think it’s great for the league. I’m excited for my friend, Pat Riley, to be able to replicate this now as an executive. But as a player, that’s pretty special.” He also had some words for Lebron specifically. Read more after the jump.

According to ESPN LA:

“He’s an amazing player,” West said Thursday, speaking of Lebron. “And, frankly, I’m thrilled for him because of all the negative things said about him as a player. He’s improved as a player, but more importantly as a person.” He went on to say “I think they have a team. So much of the NBA has been marketing its stars. Players that have a flamboyant way of playing, and we have some incredible athletes playing this game. So much of the marketing in the NBA has been, frankly, about players. I think it’s time we talked about the teams”. I really respect West for being a fan of a team that might break a record he was a part of. Shows he loves the game itself more than what he did.
