IFWT_KendrickLamarGood Kid m.A.A.d city was an instant classic, Kendrick Lamar’s debut album has a timeless feel to it, but it seems Kendrick has not completely realized his vision with one song in particular. “The idea was to have Nas on ‘Sing About Me,'” the TDE frontman said in an interview with Vibe. “I never really got a chance to reach out to him,” said Lamar. “I was so wrapped up in getting the music done, samples cleared and mastered – there was so much going on.” The approach Kendrick took on this album was very mature for a debut album, everything seems carefully plotted out. “I didn’t really wanna rush the process. I actually wanted to sit in the studio and vibe with him. [It was] the only thing that I had a vision for but in due time, God willing, for sure.” So maybe soon we will be hearing about a Nas remix to ‘Sing About Me’ like Jay-z’s recent ‘B***h Don’t Kill My Vibe Remix,’ or maybe they’ll make something new, either way I’m sure it will be legendary. Kendrick felt that Nas was the one that could take that song to the next level, and he wanted to give Nas the opportunity to do what he felt on the track. It’s no secret Nas is one of the most respected, and gifted MC’s in the game, his creative expertise would have been welcomed on Lamar’s album. “He’s a genius. The record is self-explanatory but he may hear something a little different that might take it to the next level,” said Lamar before predicting Nas’ contributions would have been crazy.”That’s what makes a great feature for me – somebody that could take the song to the next level from where it was at. He would have did just that.”
