The Giants have extended an offer that exceeds $7 million per year while adding a “sizable amount” of guaranteed money, Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reported Saturday.

The offer would seem to be in the three- or four-year range, as Myers adds that it would still leave the 26-year-old Cruz another chance to land a big contract later in his career.  The offer is larger than the roughly $6 million per year given to Wes Welker and Danny Amendola.  Cruz has the advantage of youth, versatility and higher production.

Though Cruz may be looking for a more lucrative long term deal, there are certain factors working in the Giants favor.  As a restricted free agent, the Giants put a first-round tender on the sought after wide receiver.  This means in order to land Cruz a team would not only have to have a higher offer, they would also have to surrender a first round pick which many aren’t willing to do.  As of right now, all signs point to Cruz re-signing with the Giants.
