New England Cottontails
Remember the song “Peter” Cottontail”? Well, the cottontail bunny is a real species that resides in New England. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working with the state agencies and private organizations to help ensure that the species doesn’t go into extinction. About a a century ago, there was an abundance of cottontails but since then the population has thinned for several reasons. Read more below.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans on using habitat management and captive breeding to help preserve the New England cottontails. The service will put extra cost into helping make sure that the shrub lands the bunny lives in will be preserved.
