NFL JERSEY SALES:

Via Darren Rovell at ESPN:

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III not only ended the year with the best selling jersey in the league, more of his No. 10 jerseys were sold in the NFL this fiscal year than any jersey in league history.

Exact sales numbers on NFLShop.com from April 1, 2012 to March 1, 2013, were not revealed by the NFL.

New Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning came in second in jersey sales and sold the third most in a single year, undoubtedly boosted by the league’s new Nike apparel deal. Brett Favre’sMinnesota Vikings (2009) and New York Jetsjerseys (2008) are the second and fourth best-selling jerseys in a single season.

Despite having retirement on the horizon,Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis came in at No. 3 on last season’s jersey rankings, up from No. 17 last season, and a Super Bowl run pushed San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernickinto the fourth spot. Jerseys of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady finished fifth even though fans have been buying his jersey for 12 seasons.

The 49ers finished first in team merchandise sales on NFLShop.com, edging out the Ravens despite losing to Baltimore in the Super Bowl. The highest the 49ers had previously finished on the list, since the league started monitoring sales in 1979, was second in 1994 and ’95. The New York Giants, Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers rounded out the top five.

Lack of playing time led to the plummeting of Tim Tebow’s Jets jersey, which started the year in the No. 1 spot, fell to 8th in the league and finished in 13th, one spot ahead of Seattle Seahawksquarterback Russell Wilson, who has a stellar rookie season. Jerseys of Jets starting quarterbackMark Sanchez did not finish in the top 25.

Another surprise was Adrian Peterson, whose No. 28 Vikings jersey ranked only 23rd in the league despite the running back falling just short of breaking the league’s single season rushing record.

NBA JERSEY SALES:

Via NBA.com:

Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks claimed the No. 1 spot on the NBA’s top-selling jerseys list, and the Knicks remain the top-selling team since the beginning of the 2012-13 season. Anthony is the first Knicks player to lead the jersey rankings since the list was first released in the 2001-02 season.

The rankings are based on combined sales at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and NBAStore.com from November 2012 to present.

Anthony, a six-time NBA All-Star, rose from No. 4 to take the No. 1 spot from reigning NBA and Finals MVP LeBron James of the Miami Heat, who slipped to No. 2. While this marks Anthony’s debut in the No.1 spot, James’ jersey has topped the list four times, and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (No.4) has held the position seven times.

Additional Highlights:

• The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving debuts at No. 11 — the only second-year player among the top 15.

• Six teams — the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Heat, Knicks, Lakers, and Thunder — have two players in the top 15.

• Seven of the top 15 players have been chosen as NBA Rookie of the Year, including Irving, Durant, James, Rose, Blake Griffin (Clippers), Chris Paul (Clippers), and Amar’e Stoudemire (Knicks).

This is the seventh season that adidas has served as the official on-court uniform and apparel provider of the NBA.
