When Tyga released the tracklisting to his new album Hotel California (in stores now), fans were excited to see that Tupac was featured on track number 5, “Hit Em Up,” alongside Tyga and Jadakiss. Though we could already tell it’d just be a sample, as Pac has a very popular song of the same name, it would still be dope to hear how Tyga flipped it. Unfortunately, that version didn’t end up on the album. Find out why below!
Ah, the age-old sample clearance issues! Says Tyga:
I put it out before, but when it comes to clearance stuff, you know what I mean? It takes time. It’s not like you could just call somebody and just BAM, they’re gonna hit you right back. It might take 2, 3 weeks. It might take a month for his foundation to get back, and it’s like at that time, we didn’t have time to wait. I had to go.
