Following the Boston Marathon bombings and the arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s friends, Homeland Security is now ordering customs to verify all student visas as soon as possible. Dzhokhar’s three friends, who throw away his laptop and backpack full of fireworks, were all in the country on student visas. One of the three friends was let back into the country in January without a valid visas. Although I do think that all student visas should be verified, I feel like they should have been verified all along and something horrific shouldn’t have to occur for things to get done properly. Homeland Security says, “every international student holding a non-immigrant student visa must have their status verified before being allowed into the U.S.” Azamat Tazhayakov, Dzhokhar’s friend, had a terminated visa that was in the system but was not double checked.
