Hofstra University
An overnight home invasion has left a 21-year-old female Hofstra University student fatally shot. Police stated that the suspect was also killed early this morning in the Long Island home near the campus. Three women and one man were inside the home when a ski-mask clad gunman busted into the home. About 10 minutes after his invasion, the man let one of the woman go and she called 911. Police arrived on scene and following a gun fight, discovered one of the women and the gunman were killed. It is still unknown if the woman was killed by the gunman previous to the gun fight with police officers. This morning a press-conference was held about the shooting revealing that the home was not a dorm but a rental property. The victim has been identified, but that information has yet to be released to the public. Read more below.

Thus far, the police have no reason to believe that the gunman and the student were connected in any way. The university alerted students about the shooting via text message early this morning but will open today for the last day of classes. A nearby elementary school has been shut down because it is near the investigation. Victoria Dehe, a neighbor, told police “We just heard a girl screaming. It sounded like someone was being murdered. She was screaming ‘No! No! No!’ over and over again.” Dehe also said that she heard about four or five shots after police arrived.
