Ed Hardy was once one of the hottest brands in the streets…and now you’re pretty much a clown if you’re spotted rocking anything from the line. And who does the brand’s founder credit for their downfall? Fallen reality star Jon Gosselin!
After his split from his “Jon & Kate Plus 8” co-star (and wife) Kate Gosselin, Jon became pretty close with Christian Audigier, who licensed Hardy’s art for shirts and a host of other products. He was soon after spotted rocking Ed Hardy constantly, and according to Hardy himself, “That association was deadly for the brand.”
“That Jon Gosselin thing was the nail in the coffin,” Hardy said. “That’s what tanked it.” He can’t fully place the blame on Jon, though. He knows a huge reason was Audigier as well.
“Christian worships celebrities so much, he will get next to anyone who is famous for anything. If he could have gotten Charles Manson in a shirt, he would have,” Hardy said.
