New York’s Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and others recently announced that the city has its own domain name. “.nyc” web address will be for New Yorkers and to promote local businesses. In a press release, Media & Entertainment Commissioner for the City of NY, Katherine Oliver said, “The new .nyc domain will help promote small businesses throughout the five boroughs in ways that wouldn’t have been possible before.” She believes that by businesses branding themselves with the new domain, it will send a positive message to its customers that they are apart of a growing economy. To register for this new domain you must have a primary residence in NYC with a physical address. Registration will open up later this year and more information can be found here.
