The Boston Celtics have just announced the hiring of new head coach Brad Stevens. Before any of you say “Who?”, you better get familiar. Stevens comes to the Celtics as one of the best college basketball coaches in the country in recent years. He has the demeanor of a professional coach and he seems suited for a position in the NBA. Find out more about him after the jump.

As reported by ESPN:

The Celtics made the announcement a short time ago, with the official press conference scheduled for this Friday. This could be a tough job he is walking into, but he has the personality to face it head on. Stevens has spent the last six years as the head coach of Butler, twice leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA championship game. He had an incredible record of 166-49, without necessarily having great players at the small university. He has gotten interest before from NBA teams, as well as big time colleges like UCLA and others. Stevens was quoted as saying “Our family is thrilled for the opportunity given to us by the leadership of the Boston Celtics, but it is emotional to leave a place that we have called home for the past 13 years”. It will be interesting to see how he interacts with Rondo, but a fresh start with a new coach seems what Rondo needed anyway. It could however also signal the end is coming soon for Rondo in Boston if this is looked at as another step in a complete rebuilding of the team. This will be interesting. No details on the contract as of yet, but we will find out more Friday.
