51-year-old Helen M. Ford, of Chicago, has been arrested for the not only tragic, but disgustingly graphic, death of her own granddaughter. It’s extremely unimaginable. Hit the jump for the grim details.
Relatives described the slain, 8-year-old Gizzell Kiara Ford as a smart, mature and respectful girl. Apparently, that was too much for her grandmother.
As per the Chicago Tribune:
Prosecutors said today her grandmother, Helen M. Ford, 51, of the 5200 block of West Adams Street, inflicted so many injuries on the girl over a long enough period and neglected her so badly that before she died Friday, Gizzell had maggots living in a head injury that had spread to another part of her scalp.
Sickening!
It seems that once authorities were called, Gizzell’s grandmother claimed that the girl had caused the wounds herself, much to the dismay of police investigators — who later found out that Ford had struck the child in the head and body numerous times and strangled her.
As per Assistant State’s Attorney Amanda Pillsbury, “The girl had suffered deep lacerations to her buttocks and had ligature marks on her ankles and wrists, as well as circular burns on her body that may have been cigarette burns.”
Unbelievable!
