One Delta Airline passenger en route to New York’s JFK Airport decided to save a few bucks by abandoning a total of four bags to avoid an expensive fee. Doesn’t seem like too bad of an idea, but abandoned luggage doesn’t sit well with airport security. Hit the jump for more details.

The passenger had a total of seven bags, but decided to leave four behind. The extra luggage had added up to $1,400 in fees. Despite his frugal act, airport security wasn’t going to let his bags sit until he returned, they deployed the Bomb Disposal Unit’s robot. The robot was sent out to investigate the suspicious looking bags.

It could be argued that airlines have been bringing in more revenue with their petty fees instead of ticket prices. According to Yahoo, a report published in May by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics found that U.S. airlines collected nearly $3.5 billion in baggage fees from passengers in 2012, up from $3.48 billion in 2011. Delta Air, in particular, pulled in the most from fees with an amazing $191 million. I’d be tempted to leave my bags, too.
