Many people undergo cosmetic surgery in attempts to win back their youth. Some do it to “fix” parts of them that they just don’t like. Despite the various procedures, researchers found that they aren’t as effective after all. Check out more info after the jump.

Recently published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, researchers held a study to determine the actual effects of procedures such as a face lift, brow lift, and eyelid surgery. In the study, 50 people rated photos of 49 patients ages 42 to 73. Each patient had one of the previous listed procedures. The people that judged were able to view numerous before-and-after pictures, however, they never viewed a before-and-after picture of the same person. The 50 people were asked to guess the ages of the person in the photo and also to rate their attractiveness on a scale of one to 10. On average, the judges rated the ‘before’ pictures 2.1 years younger than the actual age, and 5.2 years younger for the ‘after’ pics. Giving all the appearance of looking only around 3 years younger.
