The Thomas Aquinas Ferry sank after colliding with a Cargo vessel on “Friday evening near the central city of Cebu, officials said”.
The ferry carrying 692 people has left 24 dead and 280 still missing. Coastguard officials have rescued more than 570 people, and are still in search of more.

“Survivors said hundreds of passengers jumped into the ocean as the ferry began taking on water and listing. The crew distributed life jackets”.

Although many jumped, many were seen on the boat, trapped not being able to get out said survivor, Jerwin Agudong.

“It seems some people were not able to get out,” Mr Agudong told radio station DZBB. “I pity the children. We saw dead bodies on the side, and some being rescued”.

The ferry is used as a “roll on, roll off” ferry that transports not only people but vehicles from one part of the Philippines to another. Although it is still unsure what caused the collision, “maritime” collisions are considered common within the area due to the tropical area of the region. The search and rescue continues for other passengers.
