Officials reported that a motel located in Brantford, Ontario had rented a room to guests who unknowingly had 40 pythons within buns in their room. The day after police discovered the snakes, a guest in a neighbouring room at the motel stated that the “couple that owned the snakes had five young children with them”

“The motel guest, who did not want to give his name, said one of the children was a baby. The reptiles — ranging in length from 30 centimetres to 1.4 meters were found in several plastic storage bins in the motel room on Thursday night,” police stated.

“The snakes were deemed to be in distress… The overcrowding and the lack of water was the main concern at that point,” said Brandon James, animal cruelty inspector at the Brant County SPCA.

Other than the dehydration the animal cruelly inspector stated that the animals seemed to be in good health.

Officials in Ontario do not associate this python incident with that of the one earlier this month in New Brunswick, that resulted in the death of two children.

“The Ontario government has said it is looking into rules covering exotic animals in the wake of the New Brunswick deaths”.
