It’s real life, but you would think that this was a TV show the way it played out. During an undercover investigation by the NYPD, one lone officer was responsible for the take down of 19 gun smugglers. Ironically, in light of the stop-and-frisk controversies, Mayor Bloomberg credited the laws for taking 8,000 guns off of the streets. Hit the jump for the full scoop.

With the investigation bringing in more than 250 guns, one suspect was recorded during a wiretap speaking on his fear for stop-and-frisk. Earl Campbell of Rock Hill, South Carolina feared traveling to Brooklyn because of the laws.

Despite this, the investigation went into full effect once a narcotics investigation uncovered sufficient evidence that Matthew Best of Brooklyn had been selling mass firearms out of his recording studio. According to NY Daily News, “the investigation into Best led law enforcement to focus on Brooklyn gun broker, Adeji Omole, 31. Omole was buying guns from two men running unrelated but strikingly similar operations from the Carolinas.” Once the source was revealed, undercover officers began to buy them left and right, in order to keep them off of the street. Each purchase also added to each case.
