A budget was recently proposed in Indonesia that would require female senior high school students to undergo virginity tests to discourage premarital sex and protect against prostitution. However, despite it’s good intention, the ends don’t seem to justify the means as the plan would promote discrimination and the violation of human rights.

One who is against the plan, Provincial education chief Widodo, stated that “there are many more important and useful things that need to be cared for rather than such a test. As students, they need to be nurtured more than be judged.” Despite violating the rights, officials that are in support of the plan believe that the tests would prevent children from prostitution while also physically discouraging them from free sex.
