In 1958, A National Child Development Study was done, and it found that children with higher IQs were more likely to use drugs. An expansion of this study was done in 2011, and a survey of 17,416 people manifested that kids with higher IQs were significantly more likely to do drugs in their future than kids with lower IQs.

Another theory was presented by evolutionary psychologist, Satoshi Kanazwa, and he states, “The psychological theory that it is difficult for the human brain to comprehend and deal with situations that didn’t exist in the ancestral environment.” This suggests that intelligent people excel in new environments, which explains their impulse to experiment with new things.

A third hypothesis states that highly intelligent kids tend to suffer from isolation and boredom, which causes them to try new experiences and tools to encounter with being different.
