Realistically, when dealing with the “Hollywood” lifestyle, as a black woman it’s hard to dive in. We’ve seen that over the years – not just with Saturday Night Live. Halle Berry broke down when she was given her Oscar! There is still a barricade to break down, and here Kenan Thompson is to give all black women comedians a voice. Hit the jump for the deets.

Fact: “In the 38 years SNL has been on the air, the series has only had four black female cast members,” and now things are coming to a head. The show lacks diversity, although three of the 16 current cast members, two are black males – Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharaoh – and one Iranian female – Nasim Pedrad. Kenan who is usually dressed up to portray a, ‘black female’ says that his plans aren’t to do that any more. “Maybe [Pharaoh] will do it or something, but even he doesn’t really want to do it.”
TV Guide mentions, “While Thompson’s refusal to help SNL continue to ignore its own diversity issues is commendable, blaming the problem on an absence of talented black females only perpetuates the problem.” I’m not too sure how I feel about this! Maybe they are right, but what other diversity can SNL add and how many other women are applying for the job?
I believe as things heat up, SNL will make changes.
