It is no secret that the Cowboys front office has full confidence in Tony Romo. Why else would they continue to support a quarterback who has only been able to help the team win one playoff game his entire career there. I do admire their loyalty to Romo though. Most teams would of moved on a few years ago after the constant failures. One of the owners even went as far to compare Romo to Lebron James. Hit the jump to see why.

Football comes before everything in Dallas. So sometimes it is unfair to compare Romo to previous great quarterbacks for the Cowboys, such as Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach. What is far though, is to point out how Romo always seems to fail when the lights are the biggest. Stephen Jones, the son of owner Jerry Jones even took that and tried to spin it into a comparison to another star athlete, Lebron James.

“I completely understand here in Dallas there is a high bar when you look at some of the quarterbacks that we’ve had here and the championships that they’ve won,” Jones said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I think Tony would be the first to tell you that he’s disappointed that his success in the postseason and winning a Super Bowl hasn’t been better.

“But I think in due time he’ll get his justice, his day in court and when he does lead us to a Super Bowl, which I do think will happen, then I think all the doubters will go by the wayside. You look at just the history of athletes in general, whether it is a LeBron James or anybody, there’s a lot of criticism until you put those championship rings on their fingers. I think Tony will get his and when he does I think history is going to look upon him, look at his career, and say that, hey, he was one hell of a quarterback.” (Emphasis ours.)

This is a big stretch. I understand trying to say people talked negatively about Bron’ until he finally won a title. However even before him winning his first championship, there was NO argument about who was the best player in the league. Romo does not have that luxury to fall back on, well, because he obviously is not the best player in his own league. Also, during his earlier playoff runs, it is hard to say Lebron ever choked. His talent just was not enough to overcome playing on weaker teams in Cleveland. Romo on the other hand will have every opportunity in the world to be the hero, and he personally will be the one to ruin it. No credit taken away from him at all, he is a very good quarterback. But this comparison was a bit dramatic.
