cops shoot teen for holding fake gun

A 13 year old boy carrying a pellet gun, that looked like an assault riffle, was shot dead by Santa Rosa police in California. An autopsy shows that Andy Lopez was shot 7 times, 2 of which were fatal. Cop shot Lopez only 10 seconds after seeing him with the toy gun. To read more, click below.

The sheriff’s deputy told Lopez to drop the weapon twice, but instead the teen raised it in the officer’s direction. This is what the sheriff, Paul Henry, had to say about the shooting: “The deputy’s mindset was that he was fearful that he was going to be shot.” The pellet gun did not have a orange tip like other toy weapons, which could also have contributed to the confusion. In a news conference, police displayed the pellet gun alongside a real AK-47 and the two appeared to identical. The officers who were involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave. Hundreds of community members in Santa Rosa are marching in protest, demanding justice.

SMH. RIP Andy Lopez.
