Terrell Owens is making his return to Candlestick Park to recapture his star moments as one of their outstanding wide receivers.  Unfortunately for him it’s a celebratory occasion rather than another chance.

Owens will be on the field as an honorary captain for the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Owens will help celebrate the Top 10 moments in Candlestick Park history. Owens helped provide one of the top moments in Candlestick history with a 25-yard touchdown catch from Steve Young in the closing moments of a playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers in the 1998 playoffs.

Owens ranks No. 2 behind Jerry Rice on the 49ers’ all-time lists in receptions (592), receiving yards (8,572) and receiving touchdowns (81). In Rice’s final home game with the 49ers, Owens caught a club record 20 passes for 283 yards.

This is the 49ers’ final season at Candlestick Park. The structure will be razed following the season, and the 49ers will move to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the 2014 season.
