Andre Ward, Edwin Rodriguez, Jack Reiss

On Saturday night Andre Ward came off a 14 month hiatus and took on Edwin Rodriguez for the WBA super middle-weight belt, both fighters were unbeaten.  Ward didn’t miss a beat as jab after jab sent Rodriguez’s head snapping back.  Things got pretty heated as the referree Jack Reiss tried to separate them and ended up getting hit himself.

During the fourth round Reiss got hit while trying to separate the boxers.  He took a significant amount of time to lecture them telling the boxers to “knock that shit off”.  He took two points from each fighter and let them know he recommended they both be fined.  Rodriguez is already facing a $200,000 fine after failing to make the 168 pound weight and coming in at 179.8 pounds.  Rodriguez was  deemed ineligible to win the belt which he wouldn’t have gotten anyway.  Despite being at a weight disadvantage, Ward took care of business unanimously winning the fight with the judges scorecards of 118-106, 117-107 and 116-108.
