Jason Kidd was always a very smart player. When he got older and wasn’t as fast as the younger guys he used his brain even more to gain advantages. Now as coach of the Nets, he tried to use quick thinking again, but the NBA wasn’t buying it. Kidd was fined $50,000 yesterday for what they deemed purposely spilling his drink on the court to stop the clock to setup a final play against the Lakers. The Nets had no more timeouts left and coach needed a way to draw up a final play for the win. The video appears to show coach telling Tyshawn Taylor to “hit me” while Taylor walked near the Nets bench. Kidd denied it saying, “Cup slipped out of my hand while I was getting Ty,” Kidd said of “Cupgate.” “Sweaty palms. I was never good with the ball. In the heat of the battle, you’re trying to get guys in and out of the game, and the cup fell out of my hand.” When he says he was never good with the ball you know he is mocking the situation because he was one of the best point guard’s of all time. It was a nice try Kidd, but $50,000 is still $50,000. Hit the jump for the video for those who have not seen it.
