You see how Robinson Cano is smiling in that picture? It is because he is about to possibly cash a BIG check! Only thing is, once he cashes it, I am not sure how long he will be happy in Seattle. Reports surfaced yesterday that the Yankees know how much the Mariners are going to offer Cano, and it could come as early as today. Sources close to the team say they are 100% certain he will leave the Yanks if that offer comes in. Hit the jump for more.

So Jay Z said once he made the Yankees cap more famous than the Yankees did. Now he is playing a role in hurting that same team, ironic isn’t it. The Mariners are prepared to offer Cano a 9 year/$225 million dollar offer. It is not as high as the $300 million he was looking for, but it is $50 million more than the Yanks have offered to this point. There is nothing wrong with an athlete wanting to capitalize and go after the money, but I am not sure Cano, Jay Z and the rest of the people representing him are really thinking this through.

The Mariners were not a very competitive team last year and there is no reason to expect great things from them next season, even with Cano. Will $225 million buy long term happiness in a city where they are used to having below average team for years now. Not too mention as a player, especially one with superstar qualities as Cano, you normally do not leave a big market for a smaller one, unless it is to be apart of a great team. Clearly there is not a great team waiting for him in the northwest. The Yankees truly seem set on not going any higher on their offer, but you never really know what will happen until the ink touches a contract.
