Sought after producer 9th Wonder sat down with Hot 97’s very own Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds, where they spoke on topics that range from beats for Jay Z to the difference between Drake and former group mate, Phonte — who 9th believes is “one of the best, if not the best rapper in the last decade.” Hit the jump for more info.

As far a Jay Z, 9th Wonder thought back to when he played beats for Jay Z just months before he was to release “The Black Album.” Of the 20 beats that he played for him, the one chosen was the beat for ‘Lovin It’ which was used for his now former group, Little Brother’s first single off of their sophomore album.

When it came to Drake and Phonte, 9th cited their one difference; Young Money. He elaborated:

Young Money created a platform for Drake to have that platform to get to a larger audience. Once you get to that particular platform of being mainstream, you know, you are being exposed to a bunch of people who dont matter what you sounds like. Kendrick Lamar is a classic example. How many people out of the people that bought his album really understand Kendrick Lamar? We can say maybe 200, 250 thousand.
