Childish Gambino took to the BBC Radio studio to not only give his cover on a few hits, including his own, but also chose to discuss the success of his latest project ‘because the internet’. During this interview Gambino spoke on Drake’s Trophies beat originally coming to him first.
Gambino stated that although the beat was given to him first, the end result was the best for all parties:
“Hit-Boy, he heard me sing that hook,” Gambino says in an interview with BBC Radio 1. “That hook [‘3005’] was actually supposed to be on Drake’s ‘Trophies’ beat. I was like, ‘I don’t know if it feels right’ and then he [Hit-Boy] gave it to Drake and Drake made it awesome…Everybody’s a winner in that one. We made a different song.”
