Many children have and still do continue through life wanting to be something that they’re not – thinner, lighter skinned, straighter teeth – when the features that they have make them look absolutely stunning. Feelings like these can be contributed to taunters, bullies and media’s portrayal of what beauty really is.
After last evening, we’re sure that Lupita Nyong’o’s acceptance speech – “…no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid…” – has opened the minds of children, who would like to change their outer apperance, since once, she pleaded with God to change the color of her skin for a lighter one. Check out her thoughts on the subject, down bottom.

During a speech given at Essence magazine’s seventh annual Women in Hollywood luncheon in Beverly Hills, CA, Lupita talked about how she woke up every morning only to be disappointed that she was still as dark as she was when she went to sleep.
“I got teased and taunted about my skin,” Lupita said.”My one prayer to God was that I would wake up lighter skinned…My complexion had always been an obstacle to overcome.”
After starring in an phenomenal film, such as 12 Years a Slave, its only become more obvious that the color of your skin, shouldn’t be a factor.

“I hope that my presence on your screen and my face in magazines may lead you, young girls, on a beautiful journey,” she said. “That you will feel the validation of your external beauty, but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside.”
