50 Cent confronts Steve Stoute

A picture is worth 1000 words, but sometimes – what you see is not always what it is. Last week, photos surfaced of 50 Cent confronting Steve Stoute at a Knicks game, a result of comments Steve had made about the Queens rapper in an interview with Angie Martinez that week while promoting his VH1 series, The Tanning of America.

In the interview, Steve was asked to name the 5 artists that he feels have had the biggest impact and influence on the culture, and after naming the only 4 that he feels qualify (Jay, Dre, Puff and Ye), Angie noted that he didn’t add in 50 Cent, and Steve went on to explain why he left Fif off the list. Among other things, he said that musically, he hasn’t made anything that’s “meaningful” in a very long time, and had a snarky remark about him not getting airplay. However, these jabs didn’t come completely out of left field.

50 and Steve’s relationship actually goes back over a decade, back to 2000, when Steve – as the head of Columbia Records’ urban department – dropped 50 from the label because he got shot 9 times. (He’d later go on to sign with Interscope and use the shooting as a huge part of his marketing campaign.) 50 made it clear then that he didn’t like Steve, and it looks like the tension between the two has remained over the years. This apparently came to a head when 50 approached Steve at the Knicks game, which 50 bragged about on social media once the photos surfaced. He also pulled former nemesis Rick Ross and even Diddy into the mix, putting up a collage of the guys in questionable poses, insinuating that all three were gay lovers. He later deleted that photo, and Rick Ross’ team spoke out saying that they’d be ignoring the diss, as Ross’ only goal is to “focus on making hit records … and not on a childish beef with an old enemy.”

Now more details have surfaced about the encounter, and according to acclaimed writer Nelson George, everything was actually pretty PG between the two. In fact, he says the guys were “very relaxed, smiling, having good time” together, which is not at all the vibe that comes from the pictures. Interesting to say the least! Perhaps everything is okay after all? Let us know your thoughts!
